In the pictures, they were tightly wrapped and wedged in with the
standard plastic thingies that hold the hdd and keep it from rattling.

I don't know. Internal theft is a HUGE problem for retailers, doubly so for
electronics retailers like BestBuy. They keep all the really expensive
stuff, like laptops, memory, and CPUs, locked in storage- to protect it from
employees as much as from customers. Hard disks are expensive enough for
