Are you sure about the different
driveshaft? I recall using my original driveshaft when I swapped from 10-bolt
to 12-bolt. The different u-joint does seem to come to mind, though.

Can use the same driveshaft. I did a swap last fall and used the same
driveshaft. Don't remember any difference in the U-joints either. The
U-joint connection to the rear is different (bolts and strap instead of
u-bolt and nuts) but the U-joints were the same.

It depends on what pinion yoke was used on the 12 bolt. There were like 3 or 4 different ones. High performance cars (IE L78, L89, LS6) got a 1350 series pinion yoke which were much bigger than than the normal stock 1310 series. There are also variations of how the caps set in the yoke also.

Thanks Pat. Maybe I have this backwards. Does pinging mean

reinstall with driver side homed. Seems like they are mechanically
connected and should move together.

That's probably what it is since it's more like 'never adjusted'.

Rotating the distributor clockwise retards the timing and rotating if
counterclockwise gives you more initial advance. It may be that you need more
octane. What compression are you running? Too much advance leads to detonation

TO get rid of the ping, you need to retard the timing a tad, try about 4 degrees and give yourself about 32-34 degrees of total timing. Running a higher grade fuel will also help eliminate a pinging problem.

Yes, rotating the distributor body clockwise retards the timing, but that
means that rotating the shaft clockwise does the opposite. Itâs all relative.

I'm
thinking it's the fuel too, and so does my friend Rick who helped me build the

higher.

I have an Edelbrock TM-1 single plane manifold for
a sbc with a hole in the front for oil, that I'm looking to get rid of. Let me
know if you are interested.

My Edelbrock performer carb with manual choke came
with a hole in the choke cam. All I did was hook up the existing manual cable to
it and adjust the throw.

p.s. Rick says to see if advancing the
timing all the way makes it hard to start when hot or causes hesitation on the

Thanks Tom. Is the hole at the bottom front corner? That's where it
seems like it should be. I guess I'm going to have to drill my own. Seems odd
that a manual choke carb did not come with a hole to hook a choke cable to.
