Cisco 3000 series are good. Depending on the budget you can do VPN for
telecommuters or LAN-to-LAN connections for small branches or both.

If I remember correctly you have to enable "redundancy" and "high
availability" features.
Here are some links:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sft_6_1/configgd

Hope that helps.

First, it uses SNMP. You can greatly simplify and say it's a GUI that helps
you use SNMP to manage your CISCO stuff.
Second, you have to read the manual (no shortcut here, sorry!). You have to
start by installing "CD One", which is the main server component. Then you
can add different modules for
They can be used in full-duplex mode on point-to-point links (aka using only
one connector on each GigaStack, one at each end of the cable). If you
daisy-chain them they default to half-duplex.

First, you should enable your http server on the PIX, and then you should
allow your workstation IP address to access the http server. Lastly, you
should check your Java VM. Latest PDM only works with Microsoft VM (at least
on my case!)

Yes it is possible. You must have Sup 2 and MSFC2 to do this. Is called
"Single Router Mode". If only Sup 1 is available, you can configure "high
availability" feature and use "alternate" command in the primary router
configuration.

Are your distribution switches dual connected to the two 5505? Then you can
do No. 3 and 4, but for efficiency you will need to make sure that the root
bridge for those VLANs point to the right switch that is also doing the
routing (the HSRP Primary)

There is no single book that covers all.
The official Cisco response is that you have to know all the material from
all four exams that make out the CCNP certification:

Luca,
You cannot delete VLAN 1 as far as I know. Just don't allocate any ports to
VLAN 1. If you don't trunk between the switches, no VLANs will propagate
between them. If you have to trunk, just use another VLAN as native and
prune the allowed VLANs. CDP goes over whatever VLAN it has available,
Steve,
You have to permit the IP protocols 50 and 51 trough the PIX for the IPSEC
tunnel negotiation between your client and the PIX at work.

Yes, it's called Remote SPAN but it only works on the CatOS based switches.
The source, the destination and everything in between must be CatOS based in
order for this to work.

1. Yes, they will work.
2. Depending on the failure you have. If it involves any circuitry on the
supervisor itself, the whole module will be disabled.

You should have a route between the source and the destination of the
tunnel. You must be able to ping them before you can set up the tunnel.

Yes, You can mix VPN concentrators, PIX (ver. 6 and up with 3des) and
routers (not sure about the minimum version). You can do a full mesh or

If you terminate your VPN tunnels on the PIX, you will need to set up a
TACACS server if you want to use an external user database to authenticate.
