Dear members,
I would like to ask about the rumour I heard regarding
Catalyst Switch 8540. According to the rumour Cat 8540
is a big failure product of Cisco switch line-up.
I have a catalog of Catalyst switches, this 8540 is not
shown on the catalog. Does anyone have information
The whole 8500 series never really took off, the used market pricing for
that stuff vs. retail is unreal

RSM is an option, and expensive - a router could be cheaper.
Cat5000 don't do serial or ISDN.
Check out modules here:

Hi,
This could be fun,
One port to capture all ports. If the port is 100Meg Full Duplex going into your
captur device and your capture device can deal with all the requests etc made of it.
How many 100Meg ports could you indeed view at the same time. My guess is not many.

check the spanning tree settings. probably the port on the catalyst is
not in forwarding state as the dhcp clients try to get their lease from
the dhcp server. disable spanning tree if you don't need it. if you need
it, setting the ports to portfast might help.

I'm not sure about the 4000 series switches, but if you use version 5.4.1 or
higher on the 6000 series, the command macro set port host will
automatically turn off trunking

Is there any difference in upgrade the switch IOS vs. router IOS. Is it just
as simple as running the command "copy tftp flash". I notice there are files

yes, just erase the old image(back it up before you do it), and copy the
image to flash using "copy tftp flash", do not reload before you finish
copying.
