I had a nice surprise in the mail yesterday. The renewal for my boat
insurance came in and the premium went DOWN 25%, without any change in
coverage.
I called the agent to see what was up and she said that almost every policy
with this company (Royal Sun Alliance) had a decrease in premiums
Has anyone tried to use the PredictWind weather routing? It looks awesome,
but I wonder if it works.

I think mine is the same this year, but last year it went up to cover hurricane
losses. Last hurricane we had I was on my boat when BOATUS called and offered

declined and told the nice lady our marinas were on flat

Frank, it's a piece of cake to install, horizontal or vertical. I have a
vertical Lofrans with the motor in the forward berth overhead. The chain drops
into the locker forward of the bulkhead. No problems after 13 years.

Drill a hole into the engine compartment in an appropriate place and put a
small hinged cover with a slide bolt or similar to lock it shut.

I have exactly what Bill suggests with a fire extinguisher within 12-18
inches of it.
The idea is to extinguish an engine fire without opening an access to let
oxygen in.

You should be able to use most (or all) of the same wiring for the new drive;
but you might need to redo your mounting shelf (or whatever you’ve got)
depending on the geometry of the new drive’s mounting. Shouldn’t be a bad
swap, and I think you’ll be happy with the Octopus.

The diesel engine fire video demonstrates one of the reasons Calypso has an
automatically deployed Halon (aprox 10lb) fire extinguisher mounted in the
engine space.
I had firefighting classes as part of my merchant marine training and have

Actually diesel engines have caused WAY more fires than gasoline engines over
the years.
Gas *fires* are pretty rare. Usually it is a gas explosion and THEN a fire, at
which point a fire extinguisher is kinda pointless.

The fire blanket onboard makes great sense. If I had one available back in

I am going to put one onboard Calypso.
