We replaced our life lines some years ago. What I remember is that it was not
that hard. My wife says we got the parts from West Marine but I think we got
them from somewhere else. In any case you need a good tool to cut the wire and
a good tool for nicro pressing. And careful measuring.
Dave.
West Marine made mine for a very reasonable price FYI

Chris,
Before I closed my marine repair business couple years ago, I routinely
made hand crimp lifelines. They're OK. I have them on Touche'. They don't
have that really nice professional look of a machine swaged lifeline.
I used a tool like this:
Chris,
I did the lifelines on my boat with dyneema (Amsteel) and fittings from
CS Johnson. Look on page 29 of their catalogue for the fittings and
kits. www.csjohnson.com

The surveyor when I bought the boat said I could replace the standing rigging
myself one wire at a time. Of course I had a lot of gusto when I first
purchased her and balls to hoist atop and unclip 37 year old standing rigging
A lot of racers use Spectra line now. Stronger in the long run . No need for
crimping fittings on the ends

If you race, check the regs about using Amsteel. I think the concern was
about the attachments; not the Amsteel itself. Amsteel may no longer be
acceptable as race rigging for lifelines. If you use wire, make sure it is
not covered. Use bare wire.

I have used the old suncor swage fittings which get marketted for
landscaping and architectural applications. They were easy. When I did my
lifelines I chose to use 1/4" amsteel and a locked brummel splice on both
ends. The system has worked well for about 3 or 4 years. The amsteel
rating was
