Are you changing the filter at the same time? On my Atomic 4 if I change the
filter and don’t fill the new filter up before screwing it back on the amount
of oil that fills the engine to the full line becomes about half a quart low as
soon as you run the engine and fill the empty filter.

Wouldn't the oil held in the filter be considered part of the total oil
capacity?

I can't recall exactly but if you asked me how much oil I buy in preps for
an oil change I would have said 6 qts without even thinking about it. I
use a hand vacuum pump but can't recall it's capacity. As I recall it was
the larger of the 2 Moeller models at the time when I bought it. The
