Can I suggest the Moyer forum for A4 questions? There is a lot of expertise there on A4s not restricted to A4s in C  Also I think from the sounds of it you may have a stuck valve or 2 or 3. They will collectively get you running again. Probably the first question will be compression numbers

Was it completely overhauled ( camshaft removed ) ?  looks like an issue with spark at the wrong time ( if there is spark at the plugs, not only the coil ).Make sure the distributor is correctly installed for the firing order ( 1-4-3-2 I think ).At TDC on the crank/flywheel and both valves

Chances are you will not need a new motor. This is a very simple motor and you could rebuild the thing with basic tools. There are also lots of parts available for this engine. Moyer has a forum you could join and ask all your questions there. My last boat had an A4 and I was on that group.
