Sandhills are certainly on the move today. I counted 14 formations flying
overhead from my front yard between 12:00 Noon and 1:30 pm. Easily 400+
cranes in the first 10 minutes. Later formations were smaller, but still
amazing.

It might be a part of a murmuration that got too close to the ground (possibly
avoiding predator as already noted). Except for the blue sky background, I
would wonder about a possible microburst or some other sudden downdraft, but
without meteorological data from the scene, the predator avoidanc
icking on
one will take you to the eBird hotspot. The feature is similar to the
eBird species maps, but it does give you a frequency/confidence that eBird
does not. However, it does lack showing all non-hotspot locations that
you'd find on eBird.

There was a nice Indigo Bunting singing away at Chautauqua park around 8:00
this morning. About .2 miles up the main trail heading west from the
parking lot, just before the intersection with the Bluebell Spur trail.
Sitting in some dead branches to the right of the trail.

not a Painted Redstart around but it just had an American Redstart in it. Going

Taking shelter under a pavilion at Wheat Ridge Greenbelt to send this. Not much
diversity yet, but there are at least 300 warblers along the river and I've
only walked a half mile. Lots and lots of birds! Almost all yellow rumps so far
with a few yellow and one western tanager.

I'm here right now. About to give up. I've been here for an hour and a half and
haven't seen either bird. I walked both up and down the creek. The habitat on
the other side of Broadway seems very favorable with berry and juniper trees.
Lots of Robins, Waxwings, Starlings and a couple Solitaires
the crowd. For anyone else heading that
direction today, I'd recommend concentrating efforts on that neighborhood if
not found in previously reported area.
