Van Truan and I birded Pueblo Reservoir this afternoon. We started this
morning at Cattail Crossing Pond in Pueblo West, where the possible Mexican
Duck continues.
We then enjoyed the goose show in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, saw the
Black Brant, Greater White-fronted Goose, Snow Goose, Ros
The weather was finally nice around here, and not too cold. Pueblo
Reservoir was windless this morning, so scoping the lake was nice.
Highlights on Pueblo Reservoir today: YELLOW-BILLED LOON, a Pacific Loon, 3
Common Loons, Red-necked Grebe, Lesser Black-backed, Iceland (Thayer's),
California Gull
A few bird highlights this morning around Valco Ponds in Pueblo County, a
Winter Wren and latish Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. A bobcat eating a fox
squirrel was interesting too.

Sapsucker at Valco Ponds in Pueblo, it was between pond 4 and 5. The other
highlight was a Pectoral Sandpiper, east of Pueblo Reservoir dam, at the

Yesterday, I saw a "Western" Palm Warbler in the eastern part of the Osprey
Picnic Area, on the north side of the Arkansas River, below Pueblo

"Western" Palm Warblers and a Blue-headed Vireo. Other highlights

A couple interesting migrants were seen in Pueblo today, I found a
Yellow-throated Vireo in Pueblo City Park and Chris Knight and I saw a
Broad-winged Hawk along the Arkansas River, west of Pueblo Blvd. A couple
Orange-crowned Warblers today, and some singing Chipping Sparrows.

Quite a few interesting birds continue in Pueblo this morning.
Tim and Lindsay saw the *Yellow-throated Warbler *at Roselawn Cemetery in
Blende (usually just east of the West Entrance of the Cemetery off Aspen
Road), first found on May 11th by Evan Carlson.

This morning between 8:30 am and 9:00, I spotted the red bellied woodpecker by
the pavilion next to the coyote grill. It was visiting a bench with bird seed
on it at the base of a tree next to the walkway.
I also saw two trumpeter swans swimming side by side in the far east Valco pond
at 9:00
Many rarities continue today around Pueblo, seen by various birders.

should mention both the juvenile Tundra Swan and female/immature

around Pueblo. We started in Pueblo City Park, finding the usual
things, though there were more then normal number of Pygmy Nuthatches

I walked the Arkansas River Trail, from below Pueblo City Park east to the
footbridge (west of Dutch Clark Stadium). The best birds were located
between Reservoir Drive (where there is a parking lot), and the
footbridge. These best birds today were: singing Carolina Wren, singing

Reservoir dam this morning. Wilson's Warblers were in large groups, mixed in

Several birders, were able to see a female Williamson's Sapsucker in Pueblo
City Park this morning, in the pines not too far from the Administration
building. Paul Hurtado spotted a Green Heron on the island on the west side of
Pueblo City Park this morning too, that several of us got to see.
In Pueblo West this morning, I saw a Swainson's Hawk, which (a pair) have been

There were quite a few migrants around yesterday morning along the Arkansas
River, below Pueblo Reservoir dam.
Yellow-headed Blackbird (one), Blue-winged Teal (male), Black-crowned
Night-Heron (adult), Tree Swallow (8), Northern Rough-winged Swallow (2),
Violet-green Swallow, and Brown
I got to Pueblo City Park around 8am to the Headquarters area and it was quiet,
so walked along the Arkansas River on the North side, west toward the Pueblo
Nature Center. I turned around after checking the large pond east of the
Pueblo Nature Center. My only highlight along here, were 15 East
Well I didn't find as many Swamp Sparrows as Ted did in Boulder today, though I
did find three of them just west of the Valco Ponds Parking lot in Pueblo.

I birded quite a bit today around Pueblo. This is the date of the Chatfield
Reservoir Long-billed Murrelet back in the late 1990s, so I was doing a lot of
scoping the birds on Pueblo Reservoir today, hoping for any species of alcid.

the Arkansas River, below Pueblo Reservoir dam, east to the Pueblo Nature
Center in Pueblo, Pueblo County.

Valco Ponds/Rock Canyon area below Pueblo Reservoir dam (Pueblo County), was
quite birdy on Saturday.
Highlights that I saw were:
Veery - 1
Tennessee Warbler - 1
Northern Waterthrush - 2
Townsend's Warbler - 3
Black Phoebe - 5
Eastern Phoebe - 3
8 species of warblers and 2 species of v
Several birders were able to see the White-winged Scoter around 9 to 930am or
so, from both spots, West Fisherman's Point and from the boat ramp at the State
Wildlife Area at Pueblo Reservoir. Later in the morning, it wasn't seen, so it
might have moved to some other part of the reservoir.

if I could see the Common Loon, that I saw there yesterday, I didn't see it.

Canyon, below Pueblo Reservoir dam and two Common Loons off West Fisherman's
Point at Pueblo Reservoir. Also, a calling flyover (giving dry rattle call)
