Noticed the same. As a workaround, Robert, you might want to try
simplecdrx -
I can confirm that cdrecord works fine. When I perform the above
command it works fine.
cdrecord has perhaps a new output format, that could explain why xcdroast and k3b fail
to scan bus.
You should check cdrecord changelog to find if some changes like this were done
recently.

Both apps will now work.
Xcdroast will work in current cooker only, eroaster will work in either cooker or 8.2.

Windows appear but then after I shut the program down X won't start again
and complains about a display variable not present.

audio neither data cds), partially solved installing the xcdroasts,
cdrecord, cdrecord-cdda2wav and mkisofs from mandrake 8.1) and the urpmi
(doesn't recognize that the cd has been changed when it request for that
change).
