What about giving rw rights for users on /mnt/fotos and let Darktable
create a database ? Depending on if /mnt/foto is mounted or not, you work
locally or not this way. About local copies, I am not sure, if you create

creation of an empty DB...
I fear that the information about local copies existing is stored in DB in
NAS... unmounting that DB and using the local DB will most likely lead to
forgotten files in a cache folder... and o

Sorry I had to say that, working hard around a tool like dt to make it
work in a context where it is not meant will for sure break things at
some point. And yes I have already seen that from Lr and dt users,
that's not pure fiction.

share is ZFS based and recovering a snapshot or creating one is a matter of
seconds.
In addition no change is risking the raws... all differnces are doubled in
xmp's and the DB is a simple SQLite file...

I have a very similar to demand. I'm already in the second solution.
My basic setup is as follows:
- I import all my photos on my PC;
- The root folder of photos on PC is synchronized with my NAS (Synology)
with BTSync;
- On my notebook, I created a keyboard shortcut to a script t
If this is a doable solution.
Since the photos and the xmp files are on a NAS ,the files
in .config/darktable/ are the only ones that go out of sync.
Unison could be used to sync those on the 2 computers
I have used it for a number of years and it is quite good at
synchronizing 2 or more computer
Now its a bit late but think about moving to btrfs filesystem or zfs which is
btrfs big brother.
Snapshots do not replace backup but are extremly cheap.
Create a script that takes a snapshot before it starts DT or simply create a
snapshot every 5 mins and delete after 1 hour or a day.
