I have SS installed on a Syn Diskstation, and I am about to change my
setup. The Diskstation setup is getting too slow for me...
I guess SS will be much faster on a 3 ghz Pentium 4 with 1 GB ram.
But how fast will the "look for new and changes" - rescan be? I
currently have 47 GB with music.

Did you enable the artwork option? It's not on by default.
Have a look at Server Settings -> iTunes Update
Please note that the plugin only fetches artwork for the currently
playing track, so you won't see artwork when you browse the library

You can't. That feature has been mentioned before, but it's not
implemented. Might be an interesting once you've read that "learning perl"
book ;-)
Hello,
Is there any way to have Slimserver NOT scan? The problem is, due to
podcasts, etc,. everytime I turn on the computer, Slimserver starts the
25 minute scan. Can I set it so that I choose when to scan the system
rather than it being an automated process?

Are you using Squeezenet or SC ?
If you are using SC - increase the Timeout under Server
Setting/Network/ Internet radio Timeout to say 40 secs.
If that doesn't work then check your Router/firewall etc is not
blocking access from SB direct to the internet.

Extreme Tech has a review up of a 4.7 x 4.5 x 1.5-inch PC that draws
5-watts of power. IMO 256 MB of RAM would be the limiting factor as
would the 500 MHz processor. For smaller music collections this looks

When I was on Windows XP with a 2.8 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM, I could scan
~100 GB of music (3500-some-odd tracks, mostly FLAC) in about 5
minutes. This is a clear-and-rescan scan though, but it actually
doesn't take that much longer than a look-for-new-and-changed rescan.
Now that I'm on Ubuntu Linux
Looks marginal but it would be better than a NAS because the OS is
automatically open.
It would run even faster with Ubuntu Server on it, or a stripped-down
Linux distro like DSL.

Would like to see this solved, because I have some very desirable
partyplaylists (M3U format) covering quite a few years (and would not
like to have these entered manually track by track).

Did you try pinging the mac? From the windows machine, open a command
prompt (start > run > cmd) and type "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the

This just plain sucks.
I'm a Systems Admin for a large company dealing with thousands of

There are no changes being made to 6.5.x.

What you are seeing the the nightly downloads for 6.5.x is the same

Steve, I assume your SB and PC are on the same internal network.
If that's the case you do not need to open ports on the router.
In the ZoneAlarm you should add the ip range of your internal network
(probably 192.168.1.1 -> 192.168.1.255) as a trusted zone.
