Is there anything in the scanner log file? I assume your folder for the new songs is a subfolder of your root music folder configured in LMS. Is there anything special in the folder path to the new songs? You could copy the new songs to a new dedicated folder and enter that path in addition to

Both of my Controllers are bricks. Won't charge. I've changed the batteries but they just run out and never recharge. The bases are OK and so are the devices. The connections between them make. It's baffling.

While your files are in Mp3tag, highlight them and press ALT+T to display Extended Tags. You may see those files have another genre-like tag uniquely written and displayed by WMP that is superceding your edits. (This should cease to be a problem if you stop using WMP.)
