Hey bobharp, please do put together a review and post it, I would
appreciate hearing how the Proficient Audio compare to the Polks.
I've finally hooked up all my zones.
The Proficient speakers have exceeded my expectations.

Congrats on getting things hooked up, and thanks for the review on the
Proficient speakers. I'm still a few months away from installation. In
fact, we just got the detailed cost estimate from the contractor for
our remodel/addition, and at this point budget speakers are
definitely all we have
Also on a budget, I installed 812C Mitec 8 Speakers from Smarthome in
the bedroom about 6' apart and 3' from the side walls and 5' from the
headboard wall. (I have waterproof 6.5 speakers over the showers and
they don't sound as good but are adequate and supply both stereo
channels.) I am happy.

I had a Niles CM6.3SI speaker in my bathroom. It did not compare to
the Polks but sounded fine for the space it was in. I have one
Proficient 6.5 single stereo speaker now.

Before you do anything drastic, get a few opinions from different

And deprive yourself of the experience of snaking a wire through a
finished wall...? lol
You would need an electrician's fish tape, basically a wire made for
such a purpose.
you also might consider speakers from home theater direct.

I have a pair of HD-R80s in my living room, and a pair of HD-R65s in my
kitchen, and they both work and sound great. Getting sound from the
ceiling takes a little getting used
Put Paradigm on your short list -- they have a wide range of
in-wall/in-ceiling units and offer a lot of bang for the buck.

Thanks for the responses. I had heard of Tannoy, but never heard any

I use Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro's in one of my home theatre systems
and they are superb.

Easy to fit and very high quality. They are not cheap though. The
A'Diva range is even better
Niles Audio has a wide selection of in-ceiling speakers. I have a pair
that I use as rear-surround speakers, so I really do not listen to them
critically. They have the ability to direct the tweeter toward the
listening position, if desired.
Another vote for the Tannoy's. The dual concentric design they are
famous for makes them deal for in-ceiling mounting. They have the
widest off-axis dispersion available, this makes them perfect for the
less than ideal position they will be mounted in. No need to angle
tweeters etc.

Can I ask how people deal with the cabling for in-wall and ceiling

I have a pair of Polk RC60i speakers in my kitchen now. Love them.
Moving very soon to a new house and put in Proficient Audio

based purely on cost and an advertised freq response of (32-22kHz).
I hope to put together a review

the look of the Tannoy stuff and have bought from them before.

We're about to remodel our kitchen/dining area, and I am thinking about
installing 1 or 2 pair of in-ceiling speakers. This won't be for
critical listening. But realistically this system will probably get
more use than the main system in the living room, so it needs to
sound good, at least up to
Have you looked at Tannoy? You won't find them at the typical Hi-Fi
store as they're made in Scotland and are recognized for their Pro
Studio Monitoring systems. My living room 5.1 system is Tannoy
controlroom monitors and they've got some GREAT in-ceiling/in-wall
systems.
