I've had a 2C since I bought it new in 1968. I have considered it a
disappointment compared to the 2B with no passband tuning and a hard to
read dial. At the time I didn't know any better.

I did this for the same reason with one R-4B. The one problem was when i
heard a loud bang. Thinking something had fallen on the floor, I found
that an electrolytic cap under the chassis had gone off like a bomb. I
removed the mess, replaced the cap, and all was well.

My experience has been that household vacuums with hose attachments are
not strong enough for this use, Shop vacs that are specifically designed
for a hose are much better for all kinds of dry dirt in electronics.

Since i don't have a solder sucker, I first used solder wick with a
Weller 100/140W gun to remove as much as possible, then I used a Dremel
to grind away enough of the tab to break it. I kept a shop vacuum hose
in there to catch the filings. The solder wick step might not have been
needed.

My R-4C's meter has white light on it. Is it supposed to have a blue
filter? The original PTO blue filter still looks good. Same with my
