Found John's stuff on eBay, he offers an 'R-4B AC switch cap' (eBay
auction # 390275202438).
I wrote him, and he graciously replied that there was no reference to
that part on the T-4XB, so couldn't say for sure if it would work.
Naturally, he suggested I buy one and try it! In looking at my
Well, it happens to all of us eventually!
Took the T-4XB off the shelf for a little dusting off and warming up,
and when I turned on, only heard a slight little 'thump' from the AC4
and then nothing.
Upon closer examination (AC4 supply had just powered one of my TR-4C's
so knew it was good)
Hi Frank
Thanks for the note, and while searching for my hum I got to know the 2C
a lot better!
Turns out, my hum was caused by the VARIAC, and once I was convinced to
turn the variac all the way up, the big hum disappeared! There is the
residual hum, and the series resistor will help reduc
Just picked up a 2NT/2C station that had sat in a (heated and dry) attic
for 20 years. Very nice condition, 100pct original, a little chassis
corrosion but a very nice set. As always, I did a visual inspection
first, and then took all of the normal precautions when first applying
A/C to it.
Might be nice to include my email address ;-)

perhaps there's a trick!

Looks like the value of those padders is 150pf @ 5kv. Easy to replace
with a standard doorknob.

Hello Drakelist
A friend has an MN-2700 tuner that has flashed over on the first
'padding' capacitor on his MN-2700 tuner. I am certain that this is the
function of the 'plates ' that lie under the air variables. We have
cleaned it etc. but it now flashes over with only a few hundred watts.
From the 2NT Manual:
80 meters Crystal X 1 3.5 - 3.8mhz
40 meters: Crystal X 1 7.0 to 7.2
20 meters: Crystal X 2 7.0 to 7.125
15 meters Crystal X 3 7.0 to 7.083
10 meters Crystal X 4 7.0 to 7.125
So, looke like 7 to 7.2 gets you everything BUT 80 meters on this radio.

Hi Peter
Outstanding! Well, having the crown jewel of the 'C' line puts you well
on your way! I am always surprised by the relatively low price of the
transmitters, so you should be able to complete your station cost
effectively, and be choosy at that!
Happy Hunting!

Hi Peter
Well, the answer is: they are available, but are 'sought after',
particularly the R4C receiver. Very recently, a friend of mine sold an
immaculate C line station - R4C,T4XC,MS4,AC4 with a few un-installed
Sherwood mods.. Went for about the price of a used Yausu FT-1000MP or

Hi Jim

I don't use the 2nd VFO very often.
