everything went fine until the very last step; I wired up the internal
speaker, powered on and the audio sounded horrible. Very raspy with cw
signals having a hollow, high pitched ring to them.

I heard on local stations that I am sure were ground wave and strong. I also
heard it on skip that was stable and VERY unlikely to have been
affected by auroral activity.

Let me clarify. The speaker frame can get distorted in shipping while not
installed in the radio. I've never had a repeat problem after correcting
the initial distortion.

To check for a twisted speaker, carefully move the cone in and out by hand.

Well, today I had some spare time so I put the maps in the trunk and
tried to find the five covered bridges in Berks County here in
Pennsylvania. I left at noon and returned home around 4:30pm. I found
all the bridges and took some great pictures of the bridges and hex
signs on them.

ECN/1 was run on 14050 kHz this evening amidst a number of contesters from
all over the place. Other than trying to pick the wheat from the chaff I
was troubled by a hot radio shack and sticky skin. Kept my sending to a
less than stellar performance :( But none the less there were a few folks

Went down to 14050 for the ECN. Could not get thru to Kevin in
New Mexico next door from CA, but that's 20 meters. TNX to

I've just purchased a used K2, #3269. I find that the audio output to the
internal speaker, while clear has limited volume, especially when I want to
use the rig with full AF gain, turn off the AGC and manually adjust the RF
gain control. Is this situation unique to my rig, or have oth

During a recent contest, I received a report of poor signal quality on
my CW signal on 80m.
I've run some tests and find that on 80m and 160m, there's a distinct

My K2 at 5 watts into dipoles made 158 Q's in 27 EU countries. Only worked

Your idea of hum coming from higher current sounds plausible here, Bill.
You didn't say what your K2/100 is actually drawing but, yes, mine draw more
current on 160 and 80 than on most other bands.
I plugged in a dummy load and here's what mine requires at 100 watts on each
band:
