Folks,
I am trying to understand the tuning approach taken by the KAT500,
specifically how it relates to the PTT line. The KAT500 manual (Rev. A) on
page 13 spells out precautions to take when using the KAT500 with a
non-Elecraft amplifier. This appears to be necessary to protect some
Hello Curt,
Your filters are probably off center. Install Fldigi and plug in the K1 headset
plug into your computer mic plug. Then I think it's C21 that you use to center
the filter, if I remember well. I also think you have to redo the C13 alignment
after that. I'm just writing this from
Hum, a parts inventory takes a lot of time. I have never done one, either on my
K1 or K2, and all the options I added. If something is missing, I am going to
notice it at some point during construction, so why do an inventory? I have
saved countless hours not doing inventories. It's not like I
and make space for others.
Again,
thanks to members of the list and to Elecraft.

Hello,
I am curious as to how much of the time you guys have your preamp on?
Mine is on 100% of the time. I actually never had to turn it off.
I couldn't dream of ever using the attenuator…
My K2 seems to hear pretty well, but not without the preamp.
Has anyone heard of changing R76 from 10 Ohms
Thanks Don and Andrew.
Interesting. I definitely hear a big difference in band noise in all three
cases.
So, if the preamp only increases noise and diminishes weak signals reception,
why is it there?

Any KAT500 buyers plan on using their tuner with an older amp such as the
SB-220? If so, please post your experience with that setup, where the

Hello,
I am building the KSB2 tonight, and I put a resistor network the wrong way..
Aren't these just resistors? Why would there be a pin 1? Should I remove it?
If so, how do I do that? I have solder wick, tried, but it isn't budging…
Thanks,
Gil.

Hello Mike,
And thank you everyone for all the answers.
It is RP2… It does have a dot though, and a round pad on the PCB for pin 1.
So, I can leave it as is?

Is this issue perhaps only related to headphones
plugged into the front panel PHONES jack?
I use a Heil headset ... plugged into the rear
jack/s ... and never have to adjust the volume
control. The headset is live all the time and
all I do is place it on my head when I want to

Hello,
Our club is currently using an Icom 746PRO transceiver with the KPA500.
We have the Icom band data going to the AUX connector on the rear of the
KPA500, and the amp switches bands with no problem as the Icom is switched.
Anticipating the arrival of our KAT500, I wonder if we should (or
