Bill, W2BLC,
What is the VSWR of your antenna at 3.965? Is the KAT500 stable with 100
watts? That would be a big clue to what is going on. Any tuner's
power-handling capability decreases as VSWR rises.

Does anyone know whether Tom, N6BT is still making antennas? Has anyone been
able to contact him recently?
I e-mailed Tom five days ago to order one of his Bravo 7K verticals for my
portable station, as instructed on his web site.
So far, he has not responded.

Hi Frank and All,
It may have been mentioned before, because I come late to this thread. But,
I have noticed the same thing while I am in SPLIT mode, not otherwise.
I hope this helps.

Hi Len,
I had problems like yours until I upgraded the firmware on the KPA500.
There is actually a pre-beta release 1.11 that fixes these issues. Send an
e-mail to d...@elecraft.com and ask him to send you 1.11.
Also, you should run K# firmware 4.39.

Many thanks to Fred, K6DGW, Paul, NF8J, Frank,W6NEK, and Tom, W1TXT, who
responded to my post regarding this problem.
They have all concurred that the K3 does not retain the dual power settings
correctly when KPA500 MENU: BAND CHG is set to STBY.
I'm now confident that Elecraft will fix this in
Yes, that much works here too.
What doesn't work is setting the KPA500 MENU: BAND CHG to STBY and expecting

Hi Doug VE3MV,
I have noticed a similar anomaly with the per-band power control. I suspect
a bug in the firmware.
I run FW 4.39 on my K3/100 with the AUX cable to the KPA500 (#192) running
FW 1.02. (Where did you find version 1.11?)
I have set the K3 CONFIG:PWR SET to PER BAND, and I have
Hi all,
Has there been a new Beta release of firmware for the K3 since v. 4.22?
Someone told me there has been, but I can't find it.

Hi Dick,
Did you check that Config: Spkrs is set to 2? This happened to me, and I
didn't remember changing it to 1 from the 2 it had been set to. Like you, I

The problems I was having with my K3, no output in data modes and no KEY OUT,

Hello Everyone,
Yesterday, I did the following mods for my K3 #384, running FW 3.99:

K3 Negative ALC and External Band Data Pull-up Mod

IF Buffer Gain Mod.
I was scrupulous about ESD precautions, using a wrist strap and anti-static mat.

Yesterday a friend asked me to give him a contact on 30-meter RTTY. I had

Let me explain that

Shouldn't you be showing 4-5 bars on the ALC meter? Maybe your audio is

I'm running version 3.27/2.25 on K3 #384. I live in a high noise suburb of
NYC. When I tap the NR button, the noise just about disappears, and the
signal remains, SSB or CW. Magic!
The difference is more noticeable on SSB, of course, because I usually have
the pass band set to 500 Hz for CW.
I'm having a problem of low power output on SSB on 40 meters. Call for 100
watts, get 50 or less peak on LP-100 watt meter.
Reinstalled FW 3.04, calibrated K3 watt meter, calibrated TX GAIN using the
K3 utility and an OHR 100 watt dummy load. Problem remains.
CW output is OK on all bands, albei
