I disconnected the PA in my K3 at the circuit breaker and the parasitic
current from the 13.8V supply dropped from 38mA to nearly zero.
There's no sign of unusual behavior of the amp. No errors. Full output. All
operation suggests that it's quite normal.

I also think a tuner designed to be placed at the antenna feed point is a
good idea. Power over the coax to the station would eliminate the need to
lower the antenna to change batteries. For a real Elecraft tuner, it would
communicate over
Hz tuning from the presumed center.

Hi Folks
are the beacons at 14.100. If
you can hear one near where you are trying to communicate, you have
something of a chance at success.

a design trade-off. The longer the cutoff period,
the more *everything* is blanked.
The K3 and KX3, use DSP to tackle noise reduction in quite different ways
and can handle a much wider range of noise types.

AAArgh Dave. Mia culpa. 66 feet is a half wave on 40, so you are good. It's
on 80 that a counterpoise/ground starts to become important.
The basic point is that end fed antennas shorter than 1/2 wave become more
and more dependent upon a good ground system for good efficiency.

My gosh! Did several people get up on the wrong side of the bed this
morning???
Don't forget that any time you suspect voltage droop at the rig, you can tap
DISP and turn the VFO B knob to read either supply voltage or current during
receive or under full transmit load.

Amazing how an easy work-around can take the pressure off of doing the
repair. I know that from lots of experience, Hi!

I should have added that if the short is not cleared, turning the Astron on
again will cause the crowbar to trip immediately. You'll not see any sign of
voltage from the power supply.

Let me guess, Tom. You were not actually IN Ireland?
There is something special about making a first QSO with a new rig.

I really didn't think you were in Ireland Tom, but you gave no hint of where
you were when you sent the message, Hi!
