I find that with the equalization I can make any mike sound good with K3. A $15 computer headset or a $20 Best Buy hand mike need lots of equalization. Heil HC4 sounds good as is. One of the great features of K3 beside the equalizers is ability to use computer microphones/headsets without

No, but it should work FB because that amp also provides a decent impedance match for modern rigs. The D-104 crystal or ceramic elements want to see a load of about 50K ohms, and hooking them directly to a low impedance input like the K2 or K3 skews the frequency response. Don't forget you

I doubt if you'd see any advantage, Bob, unless you are connecting it directly to the mic input (no amplifier in the base). You need to match the 50k ohm impedance of the element to a 1,000 ohm (thereabouts) impedance at the input of the K3 (and most modern rigs). If you have the D-104 with the

I have often thought about replacing the crystal element in my 50- year-old D104 with one of the Radio Shack electret elements, although some might call that heresy. I dropped the mike once (a long time ago) and the element came loose. I sent the head to Astatic asking them to repair it

You can get the Kenwood cables for the Heil mics and they will work (according to Chip @ Heil). I bought one yesterday but have not yet installed it. HOWEVER, you must be sure to turn the bias OFF in the mic selection menu of the K3 if you are going to use a non-Elecraft mic. The MH2
