Does anyone know if the Leaf with 6.6KW onboard
charger is supposed to come with a different kind of EVSE?
Or is the "trickle charge" just that, regardless of
the car's ability to charge faster?
I bought an OpenEVSE, but I would like to know
if I need to ask the dealer to replace the 12a charger

Probably not, but after more thought, I'm not so sure any more that that
really matters much after all.

I believe the trickle charger is limited to ~12amps at 120 volts. Thus,
only 1400 watts or so.
They can be internally modified for 240 volt ~3 kW "euro" charging, but
that is about it, as I understand it.

That really depends on the cost of building and operating power plants
versus the cost for centralized energy storage. Right now the heel
draggers are protecting the operations and profits of running their
plants. At some time in the future, I'm pretty certain that they will

When you plug into 120 volts with the "trickle charger" that comes with

If instead, you plug into your wall mounted unit, it sends a different

Seth,
The 12A limit is due to the outlets limitation and not the car. Any 110V EVSE
is 12A max to avoid overloading the outlet. The rule is that for continuous
power draw you must stay under 80% of an outlet's max. Since most 110V outlets
are designed for 15A max, 12A is the max continuous
