If I use original (kernel.org) kernel sources and then build a new kernel
should / must I copy the header files from KERNEL-TREE/include/linux to the
appropriate location (/usr/include/linux)

because of journaling. I have 600Mhz PIII with 128Mb RAM and the system
always seemed rather sluggish to me. I blamed it on kde, but when I I tried

service xfs start, but it made no difference. I even removed all the
XFree86* rpm's and reinstalled them. Again no difference.

I was under the impression that for sheer performance you can't beat
reiserfs
if you want nfs then don't use it... but for nearly anything else, it seems
fine...

Still running some LM7.2 systems and have had some occasions where X would not

LM7.2 comes with XFree86 v3.3.6 and v4.0.1; but shortly after installing 7.2,
XFree86 v4.0.3 came out and I installed that manually...
4.0.3 changed the ownership of xfs to xfs.xfs... however, xfs tries

It's a matter of rational choice. One needs look at ones requirements,
then pick the proper OS.
Linux is great for some things, as is Mac, and even Windows. Each has
it's place.
Use what works for you.

Abiword is probably mucking with your Netscape fonts. If you don't use
Abiword, find the abisuite-xx.rpm in the package manager, and remove it.
Your netscape will now have great fonts.
If you use Abiword, perhaps someone else might offer a less drastic solution.

Couple of days back I started hearing funny noises from my HD. Sometimes LM
8 stops and drops me to the prompt advising me run fsck manually.
I am not sure if any precious data exists on the bad blocks. Hop do I mark
the bad blocks so that it will not be used by the file system.
