I never had this problem. My problem was that I wanted to keep the original
notes _and_ get the spacing right.

I am sure this has been addressed numerous times but is it possible to have
a single digit representing the time signature via the Time Signature tool?
I want a single 4 to represent 4/4 and a single 5 to represent 5/4, etc. I
know I can hide the time signature in the Staff Attribute dialog box and
If I have adjusted staff attributes for a staff in a score, can I then save
this as a Staff Style in order to apply it to another score? (I cannot find
this in the manual.)

Does this then solve your problem with the staff style?
For that spacing thing, just delete the notes 'behind' the slashes.

OK, it's called "Slash Notation".
I am sorry for this misunderstanding. I was using the wrong staff style.
Thanks for your input!

The "Select Partial Measures" command is part of the edit menu, and it
doesn't change its status when I change from Mass Mover to Staff Tool.
I repeat: when I select a partial measure and apply the repeat measure staff
style, it gets applied to the entire measure. Is there something I am not

The Select Partial Measures can be selected or unselected from the staff
tool as well as the mass-mover tool. Be sure to select it and then you
can highlight just a part of a measure and apply the staff style to that.

I know about that, but what would you need that for, as the bar is repeated.
The only thing you can do, is to select 'show items in other layers', then
you can add maybe a pickup of an 8th note or so.

Upon further experimentation I find that I can indeed apply staff styles to
a partial measure, except for the measure repeat staff style. This one gets
applied to the whole measure, regardless of whether I only choose merely

I've written a piece based on Conon de Bethune's "Ahi! Amours." The first

I'm on 2001d and on Windows.
If I use the hide note function (on a note-by-note basis) in Speedy, the
hidden notes are then NOT incorporated into the spacing procedure.
However, on my version I can't seem to get Staff styles applied to a partial
measure. Maybe this is a feature which is available
There is a checkbox in the spacing options for Hidden Notes. In the manual
this isn't mentioned, instead it talks of a checkbox for "Ignore Hidden
Notes". I am pretty sure this is just an error.
However, has anyone ever been able to make that checkbox "Hidden Notes" have
any effect? I can't. I thi
Yes that works. I didn't know I could apply staff styles to partial measures

Anyway, the problem I now face is spacing: The measures with the slashes
space almost as large as if they had real notes in them. How can I fix this?
It seems the hidden notes still affect the spacing.

Set up a staff style for alternate notation and apply at will. You
should not have to change anything you've already done. (The "%" masks
the entries that are there.)

I am working on a piece with lots of repeated figuration. I have already
entered it, but now decided I want the repeat symbol (the one that looks

Is there an easy way to do this kind of conversion?
