Yeah, it's a bug. They are SUPPOSED to display, and they claim to have fixed
it, but it isn't fixed. The workaround I suggested is just part of my routine
now.

For Staff Styles not showing, I have a quicker fix for that particular bug.
In the score, select the Staff Tool. Select All (command A on my my Mac). From
the Staff Menu, select "use selected Staff Styles for score and parts".
Done.
Do this at the end, just before you start working on parts,
If you're on a recent version of Finale, go to Edit Group in the Staff Tool.
Select Hide Staves Normally for the group (rather than Only Hide when All
Staves are empty.) Now the "Hide Empty Staves" command in the Staff Tool should
work as you expect.
If you are on an earlier version of Finale,
I know this one. Often when you enter Staff Styles into the score, they fail to
show up in the parts. It is particularly bad if you have ever copied a Staff
Style to another passage or to another staff. They claim to have fixed this,
but no, it's still broken. Here is the workaround:

The standard way is to use a major key signature for modes with a major third
in them, and minor key signatures for modes with a minor third. So A lydian
would use 3 sharps and have every D sharp manually altered with an accidental,
as you thought.
The only exceptions I've seen are things like
In the Chord Tool, Chord Menu, deselect Enable Chord Playback. That will
disable ALL chords through the entire document. If you only want the piano
chords disactivated, it depends on the version of Finale you have, but it is
either the Instrument List or the Score Manager that you need, click on
I know why that is happening. When chord symbols play back, they use the patch
of the staff they are assigned to, and only last as long as the first note they
are associated with. This means that a MIDI note off message is sent at the end
of the first note, and if you have a part on that note, i
No, it hasn't been fixed. It has been there for quite a while, as I recall.
There is a work-around, which is to enter the hairpin in another staff that
doesn't have an independent time signature, and copy it. You'll need the 2012c
update, though, because in the b update measure-attached smart sh
Darcy, they claim that expressions in 2012c now chase correctly if you start
playback from the middle of the piece. Have you tested that to see if it fixed
now or not? My simple tests all worked, but maybe you spank it harder than I do.

Yes, everything is fine. It's just that the new behaviour is not documented in
the help files, and I was doing it the old way and not understanding. The link
Eric (I think?) sent has it very clearly laid-out, and I think the new way is
superior, more powerful and can be automated. And of course,
I just type it. We are talking a recent version, right?
I choose a new tempo mark, I type "Allegro " with the space, then choose Insert

Ha ha! I just learned that word "andouille"! I saw an episode of "The Family

The dialogue box is not a drop down menu.
If you have already entered Slash Notation, there should be a blue line over

Adding extra spaces doesn't work for click assignment, as Finale seems to

Just E13 should do it.
The only situation where that might be a problem is if you have some
chromaticism going on around the root/9th, so you want to obviously omit that

But generally, we don't bother with that leve

Hi Neal,
Unfortunately, this is a well-documented bug dating from the FIRST linked parts
version, and never corrected or even addressed. It occurs when you have linked,
voiced parts (not all linked parts, just those where you split into different
parts from the same staff) that use grace notes.
Well, around here there is a very popular fake book, written by a Montrealer,
that uses that convention and causes some discussion every time one of those
tunes is read, so I wouldn't want anyone to reference it when reading my
charts. The 70's were not THAT long ago!

Nigel,
I had described this in another reply on this topic. It is possible to

believe you that you have never had trouble with it, as there are regional
conventions that everyone in a given region seems to understand
My method doesn't change. I assume the horn's key signature is C if it doesn't
have one, and if it's Horn in E, and the notes written are C D E, that's the
1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees of E major, or E F# G#. Never fails (though it gets a
little slow in 16th note passages...)

I don't think you are in the chord suffix editor.
