Thanks Alexander, I came to that conclusion myself although I did have the bundle-gnome most recent binary installed Fink showed it outdated. I'm reluctant to upgrade to unstable versions out of fear but now it works fine. Maybe I'll upgrade KDE too to the unstable version. Thanks again, Brian
