You can have multiple keyboards, mice, and monitors if your video hardware allows it. A feature that Mac's have had since the 80's welcome to the 21th century. Unfortunately the keyboards and mice are not distinguished by the OS itself, there might be some tools out there to distinguish them

I use the Power Toys for Windows XP from Microsoft. One feature is to have focus automagically switch when you place your mouse over any window (like X-windows in Unix). That way I am never surprised with a VFO frequency change with I mean to scroll a webpage :-)

There will be many answers to this interesting question. Knowing a little more about your skills and operating plans. If you have any fear of the computer side of it, I would say maybe its not your best first radio because the initial setup can be a bit frustrating if you run into problems.
