The seed project is dormant for the moment, until it can
attract more participants... there were only several
interested fluxlisters, and the project warrants more than
that. I had been thinking of using small rusted metal tins
to ship the seeds but integrating them into paper might be
I went to the Container Store last night. I don't like the idea of the store, a place
to buy stuff to put your stuff in: I am totally a stuff qua stuff kind of guy myself.
Some items I saw there that could be useful to us:
a) Plastic bags: 9 x 12 plastic, ziploc: about $0.23 each
b) Clear
I like the jar unless it's really to fragile, in that case I would go for the
globe. Thanks for doing the research.

i have a great fondness for cigar boxes, is it possible to buy them anymore? even so a
box of that size would accomodate the CDR. i liked the idea someone had of having
wooden boxes made in mexico.
i'm going into town today and will look around, not many places to search here.
bests, carol
just measured the CDR and case is 5x5.75 inches. the globe sounds really cool morei

[process juju] I think it would be interesting to include a
transcript of this design process. In particular it would start to
give some indications of the relationship between ideas, brainstorming,
online collaboration, decision-making (or not), the resulting object.
In that sense, a

Ahgg, no, don't use degradable anything, please! This is a librarian
speaking! The sphere sounds good, tho it would be hard, perhaps, to get a
label to stick well to it. Have to use permanent labels, I guess. And
be big enough to hold that CD.

Ah, yes - One of my pieces (Salt Water) was purchased by a book arts collection and
then sent back to me when they realized that the work consisted of a metal can filled
with salt water

As a librarian are you opposed to degradable in any form, for instance
a print printed with toner which is not fused, that slowly rubs off the

proper humidity. Two examples off the top of my head. I see the reason
not to
I'm enjoying this box discussion so much I'm thinking it might be
interesting to make containers the theme of this project. Lots of little
individual-contributed containers, packed nicely together, holding only
themselves. Well...okay...I'll just go back to lurking.

h... how did that work? incorporating seeds (that did
not germinate presumably) in a wet handmade-paper slurry?
this could be pertinent

Im assuming the paper was dried quickly but not sure how alison did it.
I have some other handmade paper with seed sandwiched between 2
pieces. I have seen alfalfa sprouts actually germinating in someone
else's paper.
It's an idea that has been around. Also there is organic seed company

I work very close to Canal street, the land of 1,000 industrial plastics
suppliers (oh, alright, three). These shops carry a dizzying array of
smallish, inexpensive boxes in a variety of sizes and colors. Almost all the
colors are transparent (save the black and white).I don't believe any are
It is always nice to have stuff from Canal street...nice historical
connection to Fluxus, Maciunas, etc. I always imagine some sort of
connection to early early Fluxus whenever I get a chance to haunt the shops
and street there.

Don't let the cat out of the bag.
(containment plus light sadism - it puts me in mind of the recent holiday
