well, i finally broke down and installed OSX after getting a larger HD. installed that(IBM travelstar 40 GB - definitely quieter), and put old HD into a firewire enclosure. the old HD reads and writes just fine under OSX, but is not seen when i boot up under OS9 in separate partition (the enclosure

Just thought I'd report back after using this drive in my Titanium PB 800 for a couple of months. It is pretty quiet (oddly it momentarily gets quieter as it reads/writes). The whole OS X experience is faster and there seems to have been no change to battery life. I love it. -- With best wishes,
