Well if you're willing to wait for the next release of OS X (jaguar) it
will be an admin tool in the users preference pane. It will be out
later this summer (as OS X 10.2 probably..or 10.5).
That is, unless they remove it from what they already have in the betas
for some reason.

rather go with a new 700Mhz iBook with the better video card than
upgrade my pismo... I think there would be a greater speed difference
and if I sold my pismo on ebay I'd only be spending one or two hundred

I cannot get my Powerbook G3 (firewire/pismo) to boot from a CD-R. It

Okay...I just went to the Apple site to order my nice new ibook (the
cheapest one...the 600mhz 12.1 incher) and...well...since when did they
remove the option to add a combo drive??? Now the only option is to get
the 700mhz...for 300 dollars more...which isn't a horrible deal
but...come on..
The only way to avoid such taxes is to have a friend in the US open up
the box and take it out so you can claim that it's "used". This way you
don't have to pay as much in taxes.

Well, first, laptop (2.5 inch) hard drives don't come in the 7200rpm
flavour yet. The highest rotational speed you'll get is 5400rpm, which
is pretty good anyway.
Second, an external hard drive is just an internal hard drive in a case
with an adapter (IDE to firewire)...so they're always goin
Search apple's support site for something called battery reset (I think
that's what it's called). It's a utility that is specifically for this
problem.
I'm sure if you can't find it someone will post the exact address of it.
