When I worked at a computer store and USB first came out, I was told by an Intel rep that powered hubs should be plugged in when the computer is off. I have followed this info since 1997, and recommend it to anyone who buys a powered hub. Regular USB perhipials are just fine to hot plug. Ben On M

I am sending this question here, even though it relates to a couple of iMacs, as in reality it's USB which is the subject and not iMac. I have just seemingly killed (?) two Bondi iMacs by plugging a powered USB hub in. Prior to using the hub, they both worked fine, now they won't start
