Scott,
I generally agree, but it might be interesting if the only Payment was a
charitable donation to his uncle's (dad's?) church. I am not so sure it is
a violation if there is not a benefit to an interested party.

FBI aside, from what I understand, the NCAA forbids even the player's FAMILY
from negotiations. If it is determined that his dad DID offer to steer
his son to a particular school for a payoff, Cam will be ruled ineligible.
Period.

Yep.. thats basically what happened with the Reggie Bush scandal. But some
of the so called experts Ive been listening to on the situation think that
if Cam had no knowledge.. Cam may be cleared. I think with Reggie Bush...
he knew of the situation. Granted.. the question is.. how could Cam NOT
My question, exactly!! How could he possibly not know what his father was
doing when it influenced his decision at to which college to attend/play for???

I've been following this as well. There would seemingly need to be some
proof of knowledge on Cams part. But I don't know if that is a fact or not.
Proving he had knowledge is going to be pretty tough.

Welcome to Two Daves Pick The SEC! Allegedly, there will be some breaking
news tonight on ESPN about the Cam Newton situation. There have been more
twits sending out tweets than I care to discuss. One thing that is funny, I
mean really funny, is this:

Nope, they don't need to proove Cam had knowledge. Remember, the NCAA is
not a court of law, they don't need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt or
even to the preponderence of evidence. They can make any decision the
infractions committee feels just based on the information in front of them.
And
Personally, if they find that Cam's dad had solicited payment to play
for anyone, they should throw the book at Cam. Otherwise, that's
setting a dangerous precedent for people doing things on the player's
behalf and allowing the player to simply say I never knew anything
about it. Not where they
Yes it is a dangerous path. It really would suck if the player in fact
has no knowledge and his own father ruined his career, wouldn't it?

Yup... but its the only way it will (probably) stop it. What has the world
come to when the child is responsible for the parents actions.

Dear
I find it very difficult to feel sorry for Cam Newton. He knew what was
going on.
Someone said earlier next he'll be making millions of dollars anyway. And,
that's what will happen.
I don't feel much sorrow for Auburn either. They have a long history of
this kind of activity. They not

But, Woody... surely you've heard of the phrase the sins of the fathers shall
be visited upon their children. That goes all the way back to Euripides,
nearly 500 years BC. Maybe even further if you count the Biblical references
in the first few books of the OT.
