He was using GS-Sources, which is a highly changing kernel.. Its got all kinds of
Patches and so forth. so its updated constantly..
Like I said yesterday, most of the kernels are not updated all the time unless your
using these development kernels. So there is no reason to add functionality
I've only been using Gentoo for a few weeks. I've tried different kernels
in that time and have been happily using gs-sources. It's the newest
available, I think. Anyway, in these three weeks, I started with pre6 and
less than a week ago, a pre7 became available. While researching my last

Glad to hear that.
Remove the sym linked /service directory. And recreate after
performing the following steps?? Should I stop svscan first
before performing the above and below

Would it be possible to have the kernel updates as a separate class. I
mean like have system, world and kernel. some of the kernels get updated
quite frequently, most of the time i don't use the updates as i am
trying to get a good uptime. i only want to update the kernel if it
fixes a bug i
What kernel you using that is updated so often?? if its 2.6, thats the price you pay
for using it as its always going to be updated..
why not just use protage.mask and then when you want to update your kernel, remove
it... Just keep up with the announce list in case of security concerns..

no wonder, that thing has every fix and addition in the world..
Like I said, there is portage.mask for that sorta thing. Just take it out when you
feel like upgrading.. You want all that additional stuff in your kernel, there is
gonna be that much more being fixed in it..
Why push a new
I really like this idea, and I think it might be desireable for gentoo
servers (who should RARELY upgrade a kernel). Send this idea to the dev
list.

hey i wanted to mention an idea for portage here so if its a good idea it
could be worked out before going into bugtrax er what not to bug the
developers, but anyways the idea was having updates done in patches (if
source still exists on upgradeing machine) to the current source, perhaps
reducing
