LOL, DRM = Does it Really Matter?
Piracy- what software companies racking in dough use
to illustrate they
are really broke and need to charge more for less.
Want to stop commercial pirates from making money
while increasing your
legit sales? Remove DRM, EULA restrictions, and have
the discs
So true! Piracy was rampant in the 80's among those
in the know and it
didn't kill anyone's profits!
I had a RAM slot die in my Dell C840 going cross
country last summer,
halving my total RAM from 1GB to 512MB. Had to stop in
Montana cell
phone in for re-activation or I could not log in to
Right, locking yourself into what Job's considers
worth hardware. No
thanks, I only want the OS.

current anti piracy can be a pain. There is something terribly wrong when one
wants to change a hard drive or video card ( in Vista )( I had to reactivate
Vista when I stretched a 200gb partition to 250.) and have to call mother to
ask permission.

I say, doing business with MS is ridiculous anymore.
That's why I switched to Apple.

I completely, 100% agree that things like activation are a complete
pain the butt... it's even worse with Quark software--even before
activation (early 90s), they made you type in at least 3 20 digit/
letter combos to use the software... annoying as heck.
But at the same time, you say the
thinking seriously about that myself ( or finally playing with Linux) but I
still have customers

I looked into Apple, and their dealer agreement is far more onerous
than Microsoft's and there are far fewer people out there buying
Apple (at least in my market.)
I guess bottom line it is their sandbox after all :-|
I only get on this binge when I do updates on a legal machine and it want to
install WGA or I have to go thru what I am going thru now with having to call.
The time a couple of weeks ago when the system was down I would call ( takes
awhile
I've thankfully only had to call the activation number once, and it
was a pain in the butt. The problem was ultimately resolved no
questions asked but it took forever to get to an operator. and my
usual trick of just repeating operator operator operator at the
voice prompts didn't seem to

I completely, 100% agree that
no way to stop ppl from stealing ( or doing drugs, would we have a drug problem
if nobody bought the crap )
I am bugged about having to prove over and over I am legit when it does not
stop the thiefs.. That's all. Hell even Leupold scopes are being counterfeited
in China.

This is for conversation, only. We know that Microsoft is far too greedy for
their own good. I believe my ideas would pour more money into Microsoft than
hackable Windows being sold pours in.
Can there be a hardware solution? Not with firmware that can be flashed such
as the BIOS on
It's called windows embedded...
