Title: Bericht
Hi,
I'm running an HLDS
on a W2k Advance Server and i can play the game fine, but sometimes out of the
blue the ping shoots up to about 2000 and makes it inpossible to play.. then
when some client's drop the ping drops to and everything is just fine (ping up
to 60) and then after
There are 2 possibilities.
1. Bandwidth saturation on your adsl line.
2. Resource starvation on the server.
What is your outbound bandwidth rating on the adsl line the server sits
behind?
What other applications are you running on the server? What speed and how
many CPUs in the server?
I'm not connecting to my server via LAN but from a cable connection from an
other location.
The server is clean, no other aps, no other servers or services that use the
ADSL connection.
The speed of the ADSL connection is 256kbits up and 1024kbits down.

There's your problem. 256kbit upload isn't enough for 10 players even.
Still don't mention what cpu(s) are in this thing. For a bit of
reference, my friend has adsl at 1500/384kbps and that line can barely
take 10 players. ADSL and cable are probably the worst way you can go
to host a server.
I have my sv_maxrate set to 8000, which should be 8KB per conn, right?

5 minutes? roflmafao!!!
Betcha it's down for at least an hour :-0)

Yes, that's fine. But remember ADSL is Asynchronous. This means it cannot
send and receive at the exact same time. It can only do one or another. This
greatly reduces the performance of a game server utilizing an ADSL
connection. Game servers uses UDP protocol which more relies on a
synchronous

I'm new at running a server, so forgive me if this
has been covered.
I'm runningHLDS on WinNT forlocal

loading a dll. Uninstalling FoxBot does not repair the problem - I have to

I love my ISP, I work for it so I know when things
are gonna hit the fan. No caps on bandwidth good download speeds, but I
just wished I had more upload than 272Kilobits.

I am interested in hearing how you catch them ...
I am fairly new to HL admin, but having dealt with
this in Q2-space for awhile, I have found that
about all you can do is stay current with the
latest admin supervisory tool upgrades, and monitor
your servers closely. If you add bans for the
echo test.

No, no - use CPM - that will take care of all the problems!

I'll second that. Although the message you are seeing has
nothing to do with
WinME, you will find, as have most of us, that Win98/ME is
totally unsuited
to running a Half-Life server. Performance will suffer, in
some cases it
will be very bad. Use NT or Win2000, or if you are brave, use
Learning curve, shmerving curve. It doesnt' take much to get an operational
server up and running

You and me both, pops...I just happen to have one of those original pong

the case of carts...I'd unbox them but it hurts my back to lift those boxes

I didnt know that there were pop up ADS happening, I didnt intend for them
