I came across Netsaint and then Nagios(what netsaint became) ... Nagios is
pretty much perfect. And it's free to boot. Try www.nagios.org.
I've just started using Nagios this week at work and it is pretty slick.

My colo ISP uses Nagios and I have been pretty impressed. Especially for a
free alternative.

In regards to the subject line: cheap
Not everyone has a good budget to get the programs that have all of the
features and eye candy, so they look for alternatives. I work at a very
small hospital and doubt I could ever get Solarwinds ($1975 for the
Orion SL100 and up to $12,000+ for the SLX)
You can monitor 20 devices from Cisco to Win2003 servers and RHEL with
this program.
OpManager works good. http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/opmanager/
Enjoy

By Solarwinds, I believe you mean Orion. And Orion is missing about
30-40% of the features of Nagios. Oh yeah and it's a commercial product.
I(and some others) manage over 1000 servers in 14 colos with Nagios.
Other than writing some plugins to access various game servers, we run a
standard
OpManager is nice, but doesn't actually offer anything better than Nagios
and doesn't have as many features (and I believe ManageEngine's support
prices are pretty stiff even compared to Solarwinds.)
Also, at the time we tested management software we found that they only
supported APC USPs. I

I have to give nagios a bump
Oddly I am almost positive that they have since moved on to Nagios. (BB
was cool in 1996-97, but Nagios is basically as good as Tivoli and
OpenView. None of which have as many Windows features as MOM+SMS, but I
still think i can make a Tivoli install for less money than MOM+SMS.)
There's a
Not sure how much info you need Alfred, Im back from vaca and am nowing

Yes, if you have cygwin installed. Otherwise I don't know. Not
familiar with scripting in Windows. I'm sure it could be done with some
creative vb scripting.
Well, I can do that fine. Because I can't get the year from the log
name, I am just working from the Date Created field instead (im doing
this on a Windows box). This means that I have to assume the date the
file was created, was when srcds created it ;)
If valve would simply make the log naming

Gotta reply here, Solarwinds is a very good product
when it comes to monitoring networking kit like routers and
switches. When it comes to Windows servers, about all you
get is memory, cpu, and

I find it kind of handy, but then the file timestamp is generally
all I'd need to determine what log was associated with a particular day.

Thanks Dan,
I must admit, I use FOR and IF every so often from CMDLine when I need
to quickly perform batch tasks kinda like this stuff, however I think I
might have to bundle all this into a VBScript file, just so I can retain
the flexibility that VBScript has to offer.
Thanks for the help
