The client connections of XP and 2000 deals with network shares (windows client connections) not TCP/UDP connections. The HL server status is a udp packet. Since UDP is stateless there is no way to limit connections. Stateless protocols really never connect to an end point, they just send packets.

DHCP changes the IP address not the port. The port will remain at what ever you tell the server to run it at and DHCP can do nothing to change it. So if you use the default 27015 it will always be 27015. You just have to tell your firewall to forward that port to your games box. -Original Mess
