Hi Mikel et al,
Feedback on this report is really useful. Pre-emptive base mapping will be the Missing Maps Project's bread and butter and I think there will be lots more mapping activity a la Ivan and Jorieke in Lubumbashi. Honing these work flows and getting better at working with, preparing

Just wondered if such a resource already exists? If not, I'll put
something together and send it round in case it's of use to anyone else.
And, of course, any advice would be more than welcome.

I had a go at this task on Sunday and also found a few pretty much complete
tiles. However, I found the roads were a little off the imagery (the
buildings were spot on). I just adjusted them for the tiles I was working
on. Is this correct?

Hi Stace, I have just come back from Dhaka (literally on Thursday), where
we were working with the local OSM community to map two areas,
Kamrangirchar and Hazaribagh, for the Missing Maps project. We worked with
between 10-30 volunteers of varying skills each day for two weeks. They are
a smart and
landmarks (or visa versa).
Hazaribagh is the priority as already one NGO working in the area wants to
conduct some health studies using the base map (and very soon)!
I think everything you need is there. let me know if there are any problems!
Thanks a million...

Hi all,
Data quality is a major issue I think. And I think especially validation.
Firstly, that validators are barely recognised in the current tasking
manager and secondly that anyone can validate.
In MSF, people who are unfamiliar with OSM are much reassured that there is
a validation process.
Apologies for a second email in succession but Jo reminded me of my
original thoughts when I read Sev's first email.
Firstly, I agree that a hugely committed mapper or 3 / 4 regular mappers
are preferable to 10 one-time mappers, but I think that's probably slightly
naive. From what I remember of M
I think this makes a lot of sense. We don't necessarily stop after a
certain time period, but validators do point out common mistakes and issues
and someone does a quick 'intervention' at the front reminding people to
square corners or join roads...
Also, maybe we need to include clear instruction
urban slum.
It's not super urgent, but it needs doing and requires experience and skill
(not appropriate for new mappers, I'm afraid). If anyone has time to chip
in, it would be much appreciated.

MapSwipe, anecdotally for now, does save mappers' time. In an area where
little OSM data exists, it can target mappers' efforts where people (or
