Generating the SALIPL is very easy:
To generate a Stand Alone IPL volume do:
LINK $SYSDASD rucb vucb MW
SALIPL vucb (EXTENT 1 COMMENT ? IPLPARM FN=configfn CONS=cuu FT=configft
or
SALIPL vucb (OFFSET 1 COMMENT ? IPLPARM FN=configfn CONS=cuu FT=configft

We use VMSPOOL (part of the VM:Manager

Apart from performance the functionality
includes:
- Review of open spool files (e.g. consoles)
- Review of spool files in other users
readers (for authorised users)
These 2 alone make it invaluable for
Hi all...
Assuming that you have both DIRMAINT and RACF on a system, is there a
way to:
- Have DIRM PW change the RACF password?
- Have DIRMAINT either reject a DIRM PW request, or invalidate the
command or something to tell the user they have to use the RACF command?
I've looked and
Hi again,
We have a client that desires to have automatic failover capability for
the VM TCP/IP stack.
We have today, a connection to TCPIP by each of two OSAs, each with a
separate IP address. We also have a virtual switch, also connected to
the two OSAs, and two Vswitch controllers.
Or - use a VIPA address on your TCPIP stack - easy easy.

Be careful about your network if you use VIPA. If you have a TPF machine on the
network, there is a PTF that must be applied to it and Cisco routers must be up
to date. We tried and brought down the entire subnet. The router froze and TPF
crashed when we brought up MPROUTE on VM.
Regards,
That's odd - we've been running it for years (maybe 5 ?!) (no tpf
though)

We have been using VIPA for a few years as well - and DO have TPF.
No problems here.

I am having trouble defining a XEROX printer, model 238 work center,
to rscs. Has anyone been successful at defining this printer to rscs?
My problem is that the 1ST page of output prints and then 2 pages of
errors. Here is my definition. There are no errors in the RSCS console
or the users, or
Yes, the TPF was key. Without it, everything worked.

Hi Larry: What version of zvm? The storage number reported on INDICATE
may not be all that indicative of a problem. Anyway in this case release

Hi: In zvm 5.2 the field is removed, finally. I would suggest in *MOST*
cases that this number isn't all that good an indicator of much. It's
defined as total pages used by in-queue users. I can't recall any
situations where it has been helpful in performance analysis.

Hello Cecelia,
You have parameters on your TCP/IP system that indicate what the DNServers
are.
Plus you have a
HOSTSADDRINFO
HOSTSSITEINFO
if these are old or have been replace you will have a problem.
I can not remember if VM:WEBGATEWAY has a specific DNS parameter.

Title: VM Tape encryption
Did anyone ever find a good way to encrypt DDR tapes?
I remember folks asking about this a while back.
Also, is anyone using VMBACKUP encryption? Does it meet current regulations?

Ann,
We
tested VM:Backup's encryption last year. It works, but the algorithm used,
DES, doesn't meet our internal requirements. As for whether it meets
"current regulations", that's a question that your company's legal people will

I'm using ICKDSF 17.0. If I use a back level version of ICKDSF, it works.
