Gary, You can *ask* about best practice, but in this case no one can say what's universally best, not to mention what's best for you. I still think you got some answers and a few examples of what people are doing. It depends on what events do you want to protect yourself against, how quickly do

A check of Q RECORDING Looks OK, we're only doing ACCOUNT, no COUNT. I'm pretty much going to pass this whole thread over to the owner of the query machines; It is to my knowledge a recent development and from my vantage, there have been recent changes in the performance/resource usage of them.

Alan, Thanks. Probably after the 1st but I'll discuss opening a PMR sooner with our VM guys and the machine(s) owner. I don';t think we'll see a FRF002 as the machines have been stopped/forced. I'm not planning on them setting STREXEMPT for the machines or STRLIMIT off either! Happy Holidays

Crypto Engines

I have been asked (cut-and-paste from orig. note), Is there any drawback to having the Crypto engines active on a processor even if they won't be used there? This was in relation to a z10 that will be installed in January. Being as naive in the care and feeding of the Crypto facilities as the

Does anyone know of a program/utility/whatever that will run on VM that will convert a postscript file to a pdf file? I know there is an html to pdf; that is not what I want. Ideally, it would be written in Rexx and/or assembler. I also have Cobol available and C+ on the mainframe. I've

You could probably take the Unix ps2pdf utility. It’s in C, eats stdin and writes to stdout. There shouldn’t be any major issues with compiling it on CMS. Not fancy, but it’ll probably do the job. On 12/17/09 1:26 PM, Gentry, Stephen stephen.gen...@lafayettelife.com wrote: Does anyone know

Bob, I recall doing this a long time ago too. Just tried it again, since my z/VM 5.4 system is sitting there in a second level guest, waiting for clients to test. The ID card format I used is ID MAINT and the file was punched to the reader for my second level guest. I had to fight with the
