Hi,
Unity heavily depends on compiz, so changing compiz settings will
render unity unusable and unstable. So i recommend that you use ccsm
and restore the default settings for compiz.

And IMO, if you have a GUI way of doing anything on a GNU/Linux
machine, it can also be done using CLI. And this applies to 3G modems
too.
