Could it be a needle case? The knobs at each end might open/unscrew for
access. Looks to be about the right length for a compartment at each end.
this is totally a guess :)

For those who detest sewing the lace to a piece of fabric, the Kantcentrum
will do this for a very reasonable price. I've have them do a couple pieces
for me. One was my first Flanders piece, which they joined and mounted. The
other was a Duchesse handkerchief corner. Both were expertly finished

Thank you to everyone who responded to my informal survey. Here are the

Books: 23 (Australia=2; Canada=1; South Africa=1; UK=8; USA=9;

I'm doing an informal survey and would value your opinions. Would you purchase
a pattern book on CD if the CD insert showed thumbnail photos of the finished
lace? If you had the choice of a printed pattern book--let's assume that it is
not a hardbound volume--or a CD, which would you purchase?

Mark your calendar for the 2008 IOLI Convention. Yvonne Scheele will be
teaching a Beds class--and she has a new book coming out the first of the year.

I receive Arachne through individual messages and have never subscribed to

Don't know how far you are from Apeldoorn, but that is where Yvonne Scheele

you are talking about--more informal, come make lace and enjoy the day--she
does have workshops and classes. You can see her teaching

a noun (much less common) 'something that occurs, is done, or is made only
once'. Depending on context, it can be interpreted as meaning 'unique' or
'exceptional', as you suggest; good synonyms are singular, unique,or
I guess that would depend on what your want to do with the thread. If you're
going to keep it as an historical sample, then I'd keep as much intact as
possible. I have some of this old thread and have used it. It's a bugger to
work with--since it's so old, it is very brittle and will withstand

I was lucky enough to see this exhibition on a recent trip to England. It
is, bar none, the finest lace exhibit that I've ever seen. It was even more
meaningful because I got to go with three of my best lace friends so there
was someone else along to appreciate the fine displays. Extraordinary!!!

I, too, help Mother Nature along with atificial nails. I can grow my own

always reply in the affirmative. After all, they are mine--bought and paid

I don't know that I've made this exact Flanders pattern, but I've used the
overlap method of joining several Flanders pieces and have been please with
those results every time. Much neater than a Torchon join--nearly
invisible.
