Hi
Like some other lurkers, I'm usually so far behind in my reading that I
don't have much to add to the topic of conversation... or am so behind in
topics that I don't like to jump in!! But on this particular topic I just
spotted another Lily of the Valley on the web - for sake of curio
Well done Julie and thank you for posting the event. I think it's a great
idea for demo's!! Your *fish* idea sent me to the most recent issue of the
Canadian Lacemaker Gazette. There is an article submitted by Jean A. of New

A question about linen and mangling.
I am working with a thread that is 50% linen and silk - beautiful shades of
copper colour but very fuzzy looking. I am wondering if mangling would reduce
this fuzzy-ness? I will try it when I remove it from the pillow. :)
It would be amazing to see the t

Hi.
I've just recently visited the website where the Christmas card exchanges
have been posted. They are beautiful and I am so sorry that I didn't
organize my time well enough to participate in this one, I did enjoy it the
previous year and have given myself a stern lecture to pull myself up
Thank you Julie for sharing the instructions for a very nicely organized

Hello Jeri and other readers!
I am taking a moment to say 'thanks very much' for posting this website! I
am enjoying it very much.
After signing off the digest for a month or so - (another story - problems
with the digests arriving to my desktop) I decided to try signing up again

Thank you also Ilske, for a very interesting snapshot of your wonderful
trip! It's inspiring to read about the incredible lace accomplishments,
and also a window of opportunity to see life in another little corner of our
world. :o)
Perhaps we will hear about the Italia Invita later, too!!
This sounds like fun Alice! I certainly had not heard of lace during my
high school years. Aren't *we* moving up in the world. :o) I tried to
find out something about the title *Remember My Name* but only see a movie
'thriller' type? Obviously not a play about a lacemaker! Just wondering
Thankyou!! - To your DH, for checking this out, and yourself for reporting
back Alice!!
The lace does fit into the historical background of this story so nicely,
and it sounds like an appropriate one for high school students. (Much more

Hello lacemakers,
I thought this subject was very interesting, and went on the web for a quick
search - finding a little bit of write-up at:

I do not know if it will answer all your questions - but I was intrigued
with the descriptions and
That was a wonderful and colourful description Jenny! I could feel the warm
sunshine and imagine all the sounds and sights! We can hardly imagine the
numbers of lacemakers and suppliers - as we have so few lacemakers and
spread apart by quite a distance over here!
Thanks for sharing!

Tess - this is beautiful. Your detailed diagrams and description of the

I am just getting caught up on mail (after being away a bit) and making slow

Good advice Jeri.

Thank you Avital for pointing out this interesting site. I think we should
add, however, that Marie-Jo now lives in Florida and the shipping and costs
will be in USD - therefore the price may not be what one would originally
think. :-)

Just a note of thanks for all the wonderful links to lace sent in by Ank and
so many others.
I've never wished so much to read other languages, as I have since joining

Thank you Bev for starting us on lace confessions. :-) I love reading about
all the patterns and types of laces others are working on. Most of these
laces I've only seen in photos and haven't tried yet, but it does give me
incentive to learn more and more. This is such a wonderfully addictive

Hello Clay - and any others interested in continuing a little longer, the

In asking the question about selling second hand - I wasn't really thinking
of the individual selling books they no longer wanted, but

Thank you for your informative posts - always well balanced, detailed and

Also I agree with the majority - in believing that lacemakers in general are

I haven't seen this term before - does it have a particular function in
lace (for a gathering edge perhaps?) and is it common to any particular
type of lace?
Hi... not sure if I am in the appropriate category - lace or chat? but I think
the conversation was happening in lace. On the subject of shrink-wrapping
(how cool) or locking luggage for travel.
We (DH and I) have always locked our luggage when travelling in Canada and I
presumed everybody does.

Hi Elizabeth!
I took up lacemaking before he discovered fly tying so they were *mine*
first - the hackle pliers reside in the lace making toolbox! :-))
Hmmm. Perhaps Santa will deliver another pair ( ummm is hackle
plier a single or plural noun?) in his stocking this year!!
