This may sound odd, but I wish I had been around in the days when Doris
Southard was teaching at the IOLI conventions! By the time I met Doris in
2002(2) she was 80+ years old and no longer teaching. I do have a photo of
her working on her pillow but didn't have an opportunity to spend much time

Alex,
That is an amazing piece of lace. Wish the photo would allow for a
closer view in some spots. That is something as a newer lace maker I
hope to be able to do someday.
Thank you for sharing!

Yes, this really is one of the most beautiful pieces of lace I've ever seen...
But wait! There's more! Alex designed and made this lace and sent it to a
competition. It was never seen again! Lost or stolen...
So, she made the one you have seen in the picture!

Hi David,
Sue is going to send you a copy, and she may have already done so.
I get the digest so am always late with items. I had lost my file and she
kindly sent me a copy. It was designed for the IOLI convention way back in
2008, so probably 2007. I may have it filed in my old convention
Dear Arachnids
I have not looked at the pictures of the 'handkerchiefs' but Joan Tyler-Smith
showed me some square handkerchief-like items with circular centres and wide
lace edgings, many of them silk, and she explained they were made to cover the
face of someone who had died. Does anyone know
Read the posts about storing used prickings. Lots of good information.
I, too, like to keep them in the book the pattern came from if possible. I
keep them in plastic page protectors...cut to fit the book if need
be...keeps them from falling out when you open the book.

A suggestion re using pens, etc., may I suggest you invest in some lignin
free pens. You can get them in the scrapbook section of Michaels or Hobby

Thanks, Sallie.
Each piece of the pattern is actually a graphics file and can be copied. To
get the pattern to fit on a page is to do this...
1. Open a screen in Word. Set the page size to Legal and all margins to
0.5.
2. Go to the screen with the pattern. Put your cursor on one section of the
pattern and

I think we're all on the same wavelength with wire - it is the silver clay

it was never intended for lacemaking ;)

I'm not really sure how many pillows I have. I think maybe 10 or 12. These
are mine. DH has 3 or 4 or his own. I do have many of them on a nice rack
with a cover. Bought the rack made the cover to keep the cat kids out of the
pillows. Pillows are good sleeping places if mom lets them! :)
