In order to use the Perl Package Manager (ppm) on a WInME machine from
behind my Dachstein firewall, I would like to set up a proxy.
I know I can use ppm without it, but have run into a good number of
problems and now would like to set up a proxy for it, not only to verify
where the problems
Hi all,
I've been using Dachstein with local dhcp for while now and all works well.
But ;-) I've added a new linux box for CVS and when I try to resolve
other machine names from the linux, I get unknown host errors, while
the Windows boxes all seem to be able to resolve the names without
Since I am using LEAF (dachstein) and am not aware of any more specific
user group, I'm posting my problem to this group. Besides, any solution
will have to be accommodated by my firewall.
Googling for 'file transfer' drowns me in a flood of music related info,
not at all related to my
I am trying to find a way to test my local firewall setup locally, i.e.
without having to have someone else test it for me.
The main areas I wanted to test was a setup for large file transfers
between myself and a second user. This second user (my sister) would not
have much IT training, so

Thanks, Richard;
sshd is not running :-(
I did generate the keys, but the Mini-Howto said nothing about what else
needs to be done
I have now resolved all issues with this problem.
Editing and backing up the sshd_config file from lrcfg makes sshd start
on boot up.
Still don't know what effect the changes I had to make will have, but at
least it is going now.
The PuTTY problem was a typo in the configuration - firewall IP
I've finally decided to try and get an ssh link going on my network.
I'm running normal Dachstein with dual floppies and have installed all
the ssh .lrp files as per the openshh LEAF/LRP user's guide
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/openssh2.html
I've added a password for 'root' and have
Hi all
I'm still running Dachstein, but would like to use a serial line to
access the 'box' from a Windows machine.
Since I haven't found a good free VT100 emulation program, I've used
and older modem program which does a pretty good job, except for the
page up and down keys.
They work well
investigate some more to see where the problem lies.

Thanks for the references.
I looked them up and it seems Putty is good for telnetting only. Found
TeraTerm Pro and have installed it. It works well for serial
connections, but the 'page up' key seems to cause text to be deleted;

After using my firewall for some time on Dachstein, I wanted to upgrade
to Bering because it has some features I can't find for Dachstein - such
as a time server.
So, seeing Bering uClib seems to be getting all the attention these
days, I tried it, but had no luck in getting it to recognize my

Some comments indicate that serial support is built into the normal

After happily using Dachstein for some time now and ready to upgrade to
the latest because it has some features I need, I downloaded the latest
small Dachstein image from Charles Steinkuehler's page and configured it
to run my network.
First off, I wanted a serial connection. So I reviewed the

Hi,
I used to be able to find most NIC drivers for LEAF firewall etc. on the
Dachstein site, but lately my existing links to LRP/LEAF seem all to be
broken and either get me not where I expected to go or simply don't seem
to have the NIC drivers -- certainly can't seem to find them on
Hi,
two of my sons, one at home with his machine behind a Dachstein
firewall, the other on the other side of the firewall, somewhere on the
net, want to play a role playing game over the internet.
I've run the firewall for some time, but am still a newbie in many respects.
I'm looking for a
After some problems getting my second floppy recognized under Dachstein,
I am wondering whether or not I should switch to something else.
But, that leaves me with a lot more questions:
How do the various LEAFirewalls differ?
What are the major minimum requirements for each?
Why should I use
