Curt, To mount the gearset simply remove the drive gear from the carriage
drive and the index gear from the spindle shaft. The stock gearset will
slide off and replace this set over shafts.
Replace drive gear of choice and 180 tooth index gear and its done.
I'll take a picture tomorrow. It looks
how many and what pitches you end up with.

As for the home made idler that has a 60 tooth
o you know what your gear
combinations will do for you so you can repeat the results when needed.

Okay Tim,
I did as you suggested and did some measuring and counting
I used the 90 tooth drive gear and a 60 tooth idler and went one revolution
on headstock, the carriage traveled "almost" 2 inches.

its very hard to tell and I may be completely wrong here, but perhaps the
double idler gear is used like back gears on a steel lathe.

You have some bizarre gears there. The six in the first photo are all stock
normal gears. The dual idlers is probably used with the y-shape
.5"
If you are getting longer or shorter lengths then the added gears are reducing
the pitch or multiplying them.
I hope this helps a little bit?

I did figure out that the chain on the outside was just to speed up
the rpm of headstock to leadscrew. The gears sere not engaged in that
configuration. I

I own an older legacy mill (pre Aluminum carriage) and need any
instructions or help I can get. I have no documentation whatsoever and
the mill has had a home built drive to long screw axis added. I dont
know the model but it appears the capacity is just short of 96"
