I see there have been other responses to this and as most say, it is up
to you whether or not you record the spelling variations as AKAs or not.
If you do, and you include both names, you could us the source with the
different spelling just for the AKA since you will have the same first
name there.

If you show the alternate surname spelling as an AKA, aren't you saying that
the individual was *known as* what could simply have been a clerk's
interpretation? It seems that would be misleading and would also become
tedious in reports. With surnames prone to many spelling variations (and
I didn't say not to do it your way, I just said be careful. Knowing how
indefinite films are handled is part of making a fully informed decision. I
have seen examples in my FHC of patrons coming in and getting frustrated or
angry because that film they ordered years ago as an indefinite is no lo

individual, then check to be sure that you have only one
tree. You should be able to also use the relationship
calculator to determine if anyone in you file is related
to the common ancestor. Set the relationships based on
