I have recently become a convert to Legacy but am having trouble with
searching for a string of text globally (ie in several or all fields)
The reason I want to do this is that I often use abbreviations when I
enter data (such as Mcr for Manchester) and would then like to
globally replace
Edward,
I don't think that this can be done globally from within Legacy. It can be
changed in all the Location fields using SearchSearch and
ReplaceLists-Location (there is also another for Lists-Location-Short) but I'm
afraid that you will have to repeat for each type of not etc.

Edward,
My last post should have read note etc. at the very end (it's too early :-) ).

As Ron has already stated, it can't be done directly in Legacy. However,
there is one possible way to do such a search. Export the file to a GEDCOM
and search the .ged file with a text editor such as Notepad

Time to wake up! You have a Search entry on the main menu. That drops
down to give several Search-based options.

I was looking at the Search function that results from the Toolbar

Funny, how we all use things differently. I rarely use the toolbar with the
icons, but instead use the bar across the top with words. Guess I'm just not

I know this has been discussed in the past, but was wondering if there are
any plans in the future to be able to sort search results by date? I did a

Would it be possible to attach to each template description an
indication of where in the Evidence Explained book, it is described? A
simple section reference would suffice. Better still - allow us to enter

Mike,
Good idea. We've actually already done this, but haven't opened it up for

That is accurate. The program calculates the new relationships only when asked.
With 25K names on my laptop it takes 15 seconds to calculate. A person with
more names, or slower computer might take a minute or two each time waiting
while the computer to automatically relate each new to the old.
