Only to use MojoPac, as suggested by Gene in an earlier post. I believe this
works well but I have never used it, so cannot comment from personal experience.

Look at tblBR. That will end it once and for all.
Well, I have managed to explain one of the anomalies - not actually
through tblBR, though my examination of that has thrown up one or two
other errors which need attention -
I did a google search on it and certainly sound like it might be okay, will do
some more checking on it. If it would really work on a flash drive, that would
be great to have it along on visits to Libraries etc.,
Thanks again,

I can confirm that Legacy works well using MojoPac, but it would be a
mistake to assume that you can breeze into a library and just plug something
into one of their computers. I wouldn't want you to end up in a heap on the
footpath outside!

Thanks to all that tried to help.
I use to put the family information from a census record in my source but
changed the way I did it when I saw a Legacy training CD. It was
demonstrated that you put the family information from the census in events
notes. I thought it was a great way to see all
One solution which is not perfect but may be useful is that PAF 5 does work
on a flash drive. You can export your Legacy file as a PAF 5 format GEDCOM
and upload it to PAF 5 (which of course is available for free from
familysearch.org). This would suit the situation where you just want your
data
Point well taken

I have Legacy 7. I still have program named Legacy 55 setup and Legacy 66
setup. Can I delete or uninstall these? And what about all the updates that I
down load. Once they are installed, can I move them to another drive or delete
them?
I need more room on my computer,

Kim,
The printing of RINSs in reports is optional, and I would strongly resist any
attempt to remove this option as they are the main reference for individuals
and I use them constantly.
For Pedigree Webpages they are also the file names for the individuals.

I think the point Kim was making is that you can't print MRINs on reports
without also printing RINs. Like Kim I file all my papers by marriage and
therefore use MRIN as a reference. Having RINs appearing everywhere then
becomes an un-necessary distraction for anyone not using individual
I also use the MRIN filing system and agree it would be nice to have
the *option* to only print MRINs and not RINs on some reports. The
Pedigree report is definitely one I would like to be able to print
with only MRINs showing.

I forgot to add that you *can* print the MRIN in the title of the
Family Group Sheet even if you have selected to not print MRINs and
RINs.

Unfortunately, because different reports say the same thing in different
ways, changing the Marriage screen, even if Overrides did work, so that all
reports would have the wording you want won't solve this problem.
That means, any time we want to create a report, we need to do a shortened
version
Diane,
Of course you can delete the old/uninstall the older versions
setups/updates. If you have v7, this program has all the coding plus more
than v5/6, and the current download of L7 will always have the current
specs. The only reason to keep the old install and updates is if you want to
As a rule, it is always good to save a copy of installation files of any
downloaded program (not just Legacy) to avoid the need to re-download should a
re-install be needed, but you generally only need to save the most current
version, or an earlier version that you might want to revert to or
Carolyn,
Let us be perfectly clear as to what Legacy is. It is a genealogy database with
some facilities for producing reports and webpages. It is not, and I hope never
will be, a full blown word processing package or desktop publishing software.
However, what it does do is to enable one to
Hear! Hear!, Ron.
One thing I have noticed with Legacy over the years, is the increasing
complexity of the program. When I first bought Legacy, about version 4.0,
or so, I was fairly new to genealogy and genealogy programs. The things
that most appealed to me were the reviews and user
Well said, Ron and John. I believe that a closely related issue was
addressed some time ago. As I recall, it was pointed out that Legacy was,
as you both note, a genealogy program, an excellent one. It is not a
program in which one can press a button and have a finished book/report
appear
I hope this question makes sense, and here it is. In my Family File I have
my wife and all her ancestors on both side (grandaprents, mothers and
fathers, uncles, aunts, cousins their wives, husbands, and children ). OK, now
her sister asked for the file of that tree, that is her family only.
ON A COPY of your family file - UNLINK your Grandparents. Then - just
send them a BACKUP of the modified file (no gedcom needed if they have
LEGACY). Tell them to RESTORE the backup in their LEGACY program
(must be the same or newer version). The file will still include your
ancestors but they
